Everyone will agree that it is important to know if you are getting close to a danger point while walking in a public space. For someone who is visually impaired, early information is of vital importance. A user of a guided route wants to be informed as soon as possible about dangerous places that require extra attention for his safety. He will then be able to approach these places carefully and adjust his walking speed.
The optimal sound tile marking
The TG Lining sound tiles exceed this information requirement. From an ‘arm’s and cane’s length’ you can hear the TG Lining sound tiles when tapped before reaching it. There is a recognisable difference in sound: when lightly tapped with a cane, the sound tile clearly sounds louder than a guiding line. The difference can also be felt with the hand, due to the changed vibration of the white cane. This effect is achieved by the combination of a slightly spring-loaded aluminium metal box with a sound chamber and massive concrete below.
Vision-impaired ‘non-white-cane users’, who rely on the remainder of their vision, can see the noticeably marked area from some distance, because the surface of the sound tile (silver anodised aluminium) reflects much more light than the surrounding background and guiding line.
High anti-slip effect
The slightly roughened metal surface of the sound tile is hard; dirt does not cling to it. The panel has a very high anti-slip effect, and this, according to German/European standards, allows it to also be applied in places where, for example, oil pollution is taking place. The TG Lining sound tiles are the most robust panels on the market. They can be applied in virtually any exterior and interior situation.
There are 3 versions of the sound tiles:
The object marking sound tile (OMST) is applied at locations where extra attention is required, but where there is no danger:
• indication of bus-boarding place
• indication of information point, such as information (braille) signs
• indication of SOS poles, CICO columns
• indication of entrance of building etc.
